maybe that is how people see you!
People generally read body language before approaching someone for conversation. No offence but you probably give off this cold unfriendly vibe so no one wants to get close.
I've never lived in NYC but i've been there enough to know that it's not hard to meet people. If you don't get to know someone how would you know if they are cool people? can't judge a book man!
