i hate to make comparisons with london, because it's simply not the same thing, but there are always going to be some similar obstacles to getting settled in these behemoth expensive cities.
when i lived in brooklyn it was well easier cos i had heaps of friends there from uni. london has been really tough, though. i think it's definitely down to not knowing anyone and feeling like you have to struggle for every tiny fucking piece of gratification. it's been over a year and a half now that i've been here and it's only just starting to be good.
the good news is that it's really fucking good.
like skt said, time and then some more time. then perhaps some reflection and then some patience. then more time. you can't force the mates thing. just rock your own stuff as hard as you can and the right people will just sort of fall into your orbit.
