I've been also living in NYC for about a year now and got "lucky" enough to work with people who socialize a lot in that artsy/snobby scene.
So that made things really easy for me, you end up seeing the same faces everywhere and i can now totally take people for what they are... which can also be fun :)
But I was also thinking about moving away. The city is so expensive it's ridiculous and if you want a nice place and need to work a lot, you don't get to enjoy any aspect of the city, so it seemed really pointless for me to stay.
Then i went away for a month and i started missing it badly .... o_O
