Just noticed... you can navigate the Dock using keys.. Go look in System Preferences Mouse and Keyboard... There is a key shortcut to 'Move focus to the Dock'..then you use arrow keys, and hit return to launch. You can set your own keys for all of these too.

btw RAM shouldnt be a problem... inactive apps dont use much...
