i used a whole bunch of design styles & influences for the book. i tried to make each chapter have a different influence.
if design is anything, it is a cycle of trends. throughout the history of design, something comes along and people recycle it and incorporate it into past ideas until something new comes along.
i'm not claiming i'm better than any other designers and don't use trends like overlaying images or negative leading, but i do believe that using a trend or style without a specific conceptual reason for it is absolutely ridiculous. i think initially trends probably have a concept or meaning. however, once they become a trend, they're usually that way for no other reason than aesthetic.
that, i believe, is wrong.
