if you hunt on e-bay you cn usually find a good canon 20-35mm 2.8 for under $500 you have to be patient though. that's a pretty good deal considering when they original hit the streets they were about $1500 but that was almost 5 years ago. i usually like my lens to have a 2.8 because you never know when yopu might need the wider aperture. the downside of the 20-35mm is it becomes a 22mm (or thereabouts) on a digital camera hence canonon's 17-35mm 2.8 which i think is a great lens some people felt it was a little soft shooting wide open i never noticed. you can also find some e-bay deals($500-700) on that lens... Ever since canon introduced the 16-35mm...
