even if it's older, those problems are under warranty and you can bring it to a dealer and get them fixed for free.
i have a 2000 golf 1.8t and i haven't had any problems going on 70k miles. i also have a 2001 audi tt with the same engine but with more stuff and that's also been very reliable.
