  Madison Grant was a well respected American lawyer during the early 20th century whose books were immensely popular and went through multiple prints in the United States. He was a founding member of the conservationist movement and a close friend and political ally of Theodore Roosevelt and Herbert Hoover. He also campaigned to have a Negro displayed alongside apes at the Bronx Zoo.
