    Jesus H. Christ!
    Just read the whole thread.

Let me tell you all something. If you have never worked in a service industry job that got tips - bartender, waiter - you cannot AT ALL relate to this conversation.

Some of you keep tossing around "minimum wage." Know what that is for bartenders or waiters?
Surprise! It's not $5, or $4, or $3. Last I remember, it's $2.13 an hour - the same rate I made in 1999-2000 waiting tables in college.
So, if you want, you try and tell me that that is equal to other jobs making min. wage, earning $5 plus or whatever it is these days.

Bottom line, F service and F all the crap. Tip $1 a drink and nothing more, and if you want good service all night, leave $2 after the first drink and you'll be taken care of.
A little sympathy for the the people who are busting their ass at a busy bar all night must might bring some good karma your way, instead of standing around debating the merits of someone opening a bottle for you.
I know it sucks, I myself question the "labor" put into such a task...
But bartenders have to put up with so much dumb shit sometimes, not the least of which is wondering if they'll go home with any decent $$ on a given night. The least I can do is increase the odds that whatever they make that night helps their life continue appropriatly. If you make $15 an hour or more in wages or salary, don't bitch about a dollar tip. Please.
