ilovepill: you're in a really good neg. position because you have power over the word "no". You should ideally never walk into a negotiation without being willing to walk away, otherwise you're not actually negotiating, but haggling a little.
fusionpixl: you probably won't be able to get your salary in line with your friend's at that firm no matter what you do. You can probably get it better, but you won't double it. This is the moment where you need to assess the value, beyond the financial compensation, of that job. Can you do better with your career elsewhere?
