i am sure that horrific things happened and will continue to happen.
we have a lesser-known moniker for the big easy: the northernmost city in central america.
baskerville is totally correct about the division between rich and poor in the evacuation effort, but it extends much beyond the time of crisis.
we're talking about a city that has class gaps like tegucigalpa, was for quite some time the murder capital of the world, suffers the astronomical levels of obesity that are endemic to the poverty-stricken of the southern u.s. and is fighting rampant drug and gang problems.
i reckon that in the face of the above, plus basically losing everything you ever knew and ever had, plus your own government basically telling you to get bent and go ahead and shoot one another, the people of new orleans are doing the best they can.
