i dont understand why the richest country on the planet needs donations.

(Sep 5 05, 04:17)I don't either. However - it took the government over 5 days to release funds, and over 5 days to act. The Red Cross were the first on the ground and I dont believe they are funded by the government.
The donations within the first 48 hours probably did help somewhat... but I dont think they really more now.
