'Knowing how' is the most valuable 'hand-out' anyone can receive. I think if America focuses on educating these people - alot of the poverty systems would be eliminated (of course you can't eliminate stupidity).

(Sep 4 05, 13:23)exactly! I understand everything you're saying Ver3, but it doesn't add up. it's not that clear cut. offer me a choice of coke or pepsi and i'll choose what i want. offer me any two things and i'll choose what i want. if being poor or not poor was a choice and people chose to be poor, then they would be happy (having been given a choice and chosen).
so why are poor people unhappy?
it's more complicated than "being poor is a choice. and i think PonyBoy hit the nail on the head with education. upbringing is a large part of how people react to their situation in life. poverty tends to breed poverty.
