The Sonys blocked out a lot of background noise but don't try and cough or sneeze with them in your ears, you'll blow your ear-drum to smithereens.
The cable on the Sonys is shit, like dental floss. The casing is quite loose and splits very quickly. Having said that, mine split after 2 months and lasted about a year and a half.
