I learned that joke in high school 1994. I told it a party once and kept it going for over 30 mins. People hated me when i got to the punchline. Those people still hate me.

That's the point. The telling of the joke is funny, not the punchline. Best told in a bar with drinks flowing and if you're a very good story teller. And you will be hated. I learned it from a broadway backstage tech back around the same time. I love it. After all these years I still chuckle..."fuck yuou you fucking clown..." oh I crack myself up
