I second Shellies Orange and Santa Ana suggestions...Santa Ana is nice near the artists colony...there are some lofts there that are rentals.
And crap...an uncle and aunt of mine just rented their house in Orange on Almond...right off the cirlce. I think they asked 1400 a month...but it is two bedrooms and a TINY poolhouse out back.
