I was about to buy an iMac a few mnths ago when I decided on the 17" PB at the last minute (it was right when they upgraded and lowered the price). I'm very glad I changed my mind. I take it everywhere and use it as my main machine. It handles just fine (could be faster doing motion work but it's nothing to cry about).
The battery only lasts a few hours when I'm really pushing it but I'm never somewhere where there isn't a place to plug it in for more than a few hours.
