All of the PDF's posted above are good examples if you are mainly looking for graphic design jobs.
By the way, resumes are definitely important. Getting hired by someone should include a resume, an interview, and maybe even a few assignments before actually hiring you (ie. probation period). Some companies don't have time to check everything out, which may be a good thing, but just keep your resume clean and to-the-point. You should be fine.
