thanks for the suggestions...
i was also talking to someone that told me not to get the memory upgrade... they were right...
2 x 512 from apple = $150 extra
extra 512 @ crucial = $70gig stick upgrade = $350
gig stick @ crucial (giving 1.5 gigs in the end) = $200
