Funny, I was thinking about this last Sunday after a trip to Venice Beach.
My girlfriend and I went to Venice Beach (CA) last Sunday and were talking to a friend of ours who does henna(temporary tattoos) on the boardwalk. She is really happy, positive person and its obvious the moment you talk to her.
We asked her how business is going and she said, "Great". Also admitted to us that she is no expert, but likes what she does and keeps a positive and accomodating attitude.
After a few minutes of talking, a colleague of hers came to talk shop with her. Right away we could tell this was a negative person, sort of a chip on the shoulder type.
Anyhow, she was showing her new designs, which were really good, but the whole time I was thinking, "I would not feel comfortable with this person, especially not if I was going to have to pay" Maybe her level of expertise was higher, but her attitude was bad.
Resultingly, her business was not doing so well. No surprised.
So, in conclusion, I figure that beyond a basic level of skill, attitude is everything. A bad attitude can kill you even before you have a chance to show your stuff. Let alone trying to get people to pay for you.
So anyways, I think that a GOOD attitude is the best asset you can have. You must be accomodating to your customers and make them feel comfortable enough to want to spend time and money with you.
