garlic don't work para, but vampires are known to be obsessive-compulsive, so all you have to do when confronted by a blood sucking monster such as kelpie is throw a load of matches all over the floor and he'll have to stop and pick them up and make sure all the heads are facing the same way and parallel to each other and you can run away.
