mrdobs, the well developed era's of earths history by naturalist scientists all come down to the foundation that one starts with. It's how you look at things. A naturalist looks at the Grand Canyon and says, "Lots of time, little water.". The young-earth scientist looks at the same view and says, "Lot's of water, little time."
And again, it's not terribly important to me because Hebrew scholars will tell you that the "days" in Genesis allow for thousands and thousands of years. It's secondary to me.
