    S$42,000 = £14,000 (US$25,00).

You can rent nice apartments (out of town) for about S$1200 a month that have swimming pool / gym / sauna etc type set ups.

Food is cheap and v tasty at food courts such as Scotts Picnic on Scotts Road or at hawker centres such as Newton Circus you can eat loads for about S$3 (£1). Dinner at a restauarant such as Mezza9 in the Hyatt will set you back about S$120 per head for 3 courses and booze.

Public transport is excellent and cheap, busses and the MRT can take you all over the island. Cars and driving is expensive as Muidlatif was saying.

Also, if you want your money to go further most Singaporeans schlep accross the causeway to Johor (Malaysia) to stock up on cheap groceries and eat at v cheap seafood restaurants (good for ketam pedas!).

Nights out on the booze can be expensive, if you frequent a bar regularly it's cheaper to buy a bottle of spirits to leave behind for your next visit.

Let me know if you need any further info. Hopefully this helps.
