1. Less is more
2. The best frame is one that's invisible
3. Gimmicks are for kids
4. Drop shadows, lens flares, embossing, and 99.999% of all photoshop filters are for kids
5. know your audience: if all your sites look the same, you're designing for yourself, not them
6. designers should suppress their own style, but should be the conduits for clients' style. only illustrators, photographers, copywriters, 3D ARTISTS, and other such *amenities* to design should incorporate style.
7. leave your ego at home
8. god is in the details
and most importantly...
9. learn to deal with criticism
