when i was 19 i had a panic attack and just dropped. i hit the back of my head square on the concrete which caused two brain contusions. for about 2 years afterwards i would get panic attacks very frequently. i still get them every so often but ive actually had a good method in countering them, which i will pass on.
firstly, carry a brown paper bag in your wallet. when you feel a panic attack coming on, pull out the bag and cover your nose and mouth. breathe regularly until you feel it pass. when you are having a panic attack your body releases its carbon monoxide and thats what makes you freak out even more. by using the paper bag, you are keeping a constant flow so you dont lose any.
when you feel one coming on, don't freak out. it just makes it worse. just try and breathe normally at first. dont take deep breaths or anything. if it worsens, go for the bag.
also think about something else. ill usually think of something random like the red sox current pitching woes or something. just anything that will bring you back down.
and if none of it works, just lie down and pass out if you have to. youre not gonna die or anything. just cancel your plans for the rest of the day and chill out. if you pass out, oh well, at least you were already lying down so you avoid any traumatic head hits like i got.
good luck man.
