Hackney near London fields is nice as broadway market offers a lot in the way of dining and drinking in addition to having the park nearby to lounge in on rare hot summer days. I saw three tennants super drinking street alcoholics arguing outside of a pub there while some newly moved in hipsters stared on in disbelief. The SA's turned to them and said, 'Welcome to hackney'. But I like my turf a bit rough anyways keeps the twats away so I for one welcome our new Tennants drinking overlords.

Islington is a gentrified white wash and boooring.

Though it's cool to be hater on shoreditch (all the while living there) it still offers the best nightlife in London. Beats the freakin' townies in West London.

South of the Thames is non-existent in my mind. Everyone that moves there never gets seen or heard from again.

I've lived in Stoke Newington for about 4 years now and love that as well. Abney Park is one of my favorite parks in London even though I'm not gay. You get all sorts around here and there are some alright boozers and good dining.

So my choices would be Hackney/Stoke Newington/Bethnal Green/Dalston they're cheap and fun, you can buy booze all night most places and there is a lawlessness to the night life.
