place one: near victoria park, hackney. £380pcm. good bus routes, cheap, fun, close to the park. bit dodgy, though, and going out in central can be a bit of a chore.
place two: islington, near higbury fields. £400pcm. very, very small room. upper street has lots going on and islington can be nice. bit naff, though, and lots of idiots around. well on the gentrification track.
place three: westbourne park, top of portobello road. £300pcm but you'll never get anything for that around there- we lucked out and took over someone's council flat. pros: about a gajillion, it was a wicked place to live. cons: if you live in a council flat that isn't yours, you'll get chucked out eventually.
place four: shoreditch. £450pcm. too expensive, but it was great otherwise. council tax in that area is shocking. again, white tide and loads of scenesters. a bit obvious. newmeejas all over the shop.
place five: east dulwich (betwixt brixton and camberwell). £360pcm. i've only been there a week or so, but it's wicked. i'm hell and gone from central london, and it feels like it. the commute isn't bad at all, though. half an hour with southern trains and then the tube. loads of great boozers, lots of nightlife in brixton. parks and teeth sucking and peckham just around the corner.
hope that helps!
