i saw D Gensier's interview (and other interviews) regarding ubran market and culture.
it was very interesting to see. indeed, that he seems to pioneer the marketing of the urban culture. not sure i agree that he has helped really anyone but he enabled mainstream corps to get in to the urban market.
i do believe that he is the archtect of product placement in various urban music. i think its well done.
on the other side, someone like common went against the ideals saying that people like him is selling the culture away. what he found is that culture should not be commoditized but rather it should be shared.
i agree on both. as a former niche market strategist, i say DG has tapped in to the niche effectively and very well done for him self. on the other hand, as the trendy of culture fades, will he stick around to stand by the culture?
