As for being single, it's pretty great most of the time, except when you're feeling lonely and you can't talk to your family. Personally, I don't mind being single at all, and it's especially nice when some of your friends are the same way. I enjoy not having to do special things.
I always try to ignore Valentine's Day (although it annoys me when every girl in my lecture at school brings their boyfriends along to class) but I'm sure it'll come back to haunt me in the future when I am with someone.
I think the major drawback with being single (at least for me) is in that period of time when all of your friends have boyfriends/girlfriends except for you. Most friends tend to spend more time with them than you and you always hear stories about double dates and how they all hung out together at some place that is basically a couples place, and therefore you didn't go. I tend to feel left out sometimes when those things happen, but I still enjoy being single.
