I think it is smart to have a wide variety, but in my opinion people who claim to have a lot of skills are usually not great at anything, just good at a lot of things.
Both are really complex. A print designer needs to understand everything from concept to press. I take more pride in truly understanding print inside and out than I would if I knew more web stuff also.
