The US is the biggest debtor in the world and has shitty to shakey relations with everyone, including its allies and neighbours. If not for September 11th giving a kick in the pants to a slagging economy, the US would already be down the drain. Its quickened march to fascism is deeply troubling from the viewpoint of the freedom-loving world, but there is hope: Rome fell too, and the world outside of Rome's empire flourished.
Burn, Washington, burn!
Europe may not be going toe to toe, and it may not be able to, but that is not a failure or sign of decline. Just because you want to play a game doesn't mean the rest of us lose when we decide not to play.
