later, when we were protesting in florence, police presence was actually the oposite: they stood silent, almost trying to be unnoticed except when you look for them: then you could see this "wall" of blue-dressed people.
-----------------yeah, the scottish coppers have taken to standing in a big square around the illegal protestors and boring them sensless till they either start a fight (and get battered, less common) or get fed up and ask to leave - they are then allowed unhindered to go on their way. Time will tell if it's a total success, but so far less violence than in Genoa for instance. I've heard horror stories about the italian riot squads tactics there (pre-emptive raids and such). Embra centre was practicaly closed down though, so in a sense the protests are working even if not too many are getting to go to war...
