marriage in itself is kind of what you make of it, I reckon one of the major issues in relation to gay marriage is addressing the stereotype of homosexual promiscuity and frivolity, i.e the lack of ability to have a monogamous and committed relationship. Maybe this is helping to redefine what marriage actually is rather than merely allowing more people access to an out of date concept. The church hijacked marriage and turned it into a badge to join the 'normal citizen' club, and right now they're pretty pissed.
