Cuz they gots robots and shit to land on the moon. so even when a billion dollar robot walks off the face of the moon, it still costs less than launching a rocket with spacedudes in it.
and it wasn't really about science anyway; it was about beating Ivan Drago. I mean they don't even have the Internet in the Soviet Union today, now do they?
