    Negative ions collide with airborne particles such as dust, pollen, bacteria, dander and smoke.

    Negative ions transfer their charge to the polluting particle creating a new negatively charged particle, which continues to attract positive particles until the particles become heavy enough to fall out of the air we breathe.

    A pretty good idea if you ask me.
