    actually, I don't think that is a softbox. And if it is, it's a small one. The shadows are really quite defined.

    It looks like it's a single head (light) that's set to be about 1/2 to 1 stop brighter than the sunlight. The shadow of the guy on the ground is still pretty dense so I don't think it would be 2 stops.

    And, it's almost certainly a wide-angle lens. Probably a 30 or something along those lines.

    But, yeah, short answer is lighting. And, in this case the film or sensor setting that was used. The image itself is really saturated and contrasty. Which can be done in Pshop, but it will create noise if you overdo it.

    The bottom line is: why do you ask? I don't think this is a very good photo at all.
