Director is in essence intended for heavier video/graphics implementations. It has much better memory management, easier to publish to mupltiple platforms and gives you 3d possibilities. Lingo is definitely simpler then AS and they improved the Director with MX 2004 version a lot. What I used to do is develop some nice tricks in Flash then used those smaller UI elements within Director environment. The great thing is that you can access your Flash movies from Director with ease.
