C'mon there's no 'global' solution or rule for good design.
Good design happens when it appeals to the target audience.
...a.e. I like Flash intros when they're done right and there's loads of sites I can think of that wouldn't be cool without them... and there's loads of sites that could do without them... Even pop-ups come in useful if used right, and in other cases they should go away.Oh yeah, talk about eliminating bad sites, don't let the client design for you... meh. :S
