i do have to agree that the lack of browser ports in flash really blows llamas. Back button et al should be built in. It's a plug in, but it doesn't actaully plug into anything. Works like a damned image.
I'm still a huge advocate of using the best tool for the job. Flash s definitely better for an application environment. Especially when it comes to live data transfer, etc. But I still think it's overkill for some sites.
For instance, to call xml content form the server, you have to load the flash in a browser (embedded into the html), and then once the swf is loaded it has to go out and make another call to the server for the data, and then parse it ,etc.
Just a bit too much overhead to be practical for a 10 page band website.
But most of all... Forget about making sites for veersion 4's. Shit, I mostly just check the latest browsers...
And a lot of the js out there has seemed buggy to me. I haven't used enough, but I've spent plenty of time working with people debugging their dhtml and js scripts because of strange things.
So if you need movement, yes.. flash is tops... at least AS is cross browser. But if not, i don't think the overhead jsutifies the outcome.
Ok, sun's up, so im babling again.. and i'm too lazy / tird to reread so i hope it all made sense.
