It's like being in the Carribean or Africa. French speaking/Creole style. Nice food, women, weather, etc. Strange place on the planet. Took a vacation and when to Mocambique, Madagascar and Mauritius. Back when US Dollar stretched, can't do it today that easily.
I wouldn't go there thinking about it being som artsy place though. You'll find the occasional street artist, but it's more or less a holiday destination, but they have a pretty good economy and are politically stable. The scuba and snorkeling is unbelievable. Fishing is awesome too and not many sharks. White sand beaches, warm crystal clear water and green, green trees. They've got great atheletes too.
