At present it's a mugs market. Ie: young kids and veterans alike pricing themselves out of the market. A cool job it may be, but first and foremost, it's a job that requires a lot of talent that should be made available at a sensible premium. Like all other products and services, it should be priced according to the expected revenue or saving generated by a particular action. so does design make money? you're damn right it does. We need a union of governing body, some mark that defines standards of quality, once that is inplace, I would see designers on a par with their advertising opposites. So, i'd say this
Jnr: 18-25k
Mid: 25 - 35k
Snr: 35-55k
CD: 55k +two things need to happen to make this possible. People, especially students need to stop working for free. Secondly, Designer need to learn how to quantify the results of their efforts. Advertisers, Consultants, Marketing people always compare their worth to a real amount generated or saved by their actions, we designer can easily do the same.
Some may call that insane, but this industry is unique in the fact that it kills itself from the bottom up.
