i lived in milan for 3 years, mattia made it pretty clear.
some suggestions...
1) get a scooter. it's faster, easier, and you'll be able to move after midnight (public transport dies after midnight). the only con it's definitely the cold winter and usual rain. in the meantime, get a monthly ticket, it's worth the money.2) accomodation is indeed very expensive. at the beging at least, i'd suggest you to get a newspaper called "secondamano" (www.secondamano.it) and look for shared flats. expect to pay something around 400 to live in a good place.
3) nighlife is good, although a bit expensive depending were you head at.
4) try to speak italian. chicks will love your crappy italian accent (it helped me at the beging so much that i faked a crappy accent for some months.. ;P).
