Yeh i love maps. Did a series of experiments where i sort of bent contours into shapes, and even people. worked quite well.
I found a site for primary school kids on making paper fractals by folding strips of card (i.e 1" by 11") end to end, over and over again, then unfolding it and putting it on its side, and putting all the folds at specific rightangles. They had a java demonstration of it too. Search google for "How to make fractals"
