Get or Borrow the book: "How to Design Logos, Symbols and Icons."
It has numerous case studies, a little bit of Logo history, elements of a logo, and a bit more.
Negative side is that sometimes the author doesn't anaylze his points, and a few of the case studies (especially the one of Nike) is to the bare minumum. I think he prolly just used Nike because he wanted to attract designers to his book.
Nevertheless, I had to do a 30 min presentation on Logo design last year, and the book gave some decent insight. It will easily fill 10 minutes.
