I've been there 3 times in the last 4 years, and I'm pretty sick of it. I'm Korean, so I hope no one gets offended at what I'm going to say.
The culture there, like any other foreign country, is drastically different there than the states.
Guys hold hands with guys, girls hold hands with girls.
You'll find that a lot of people north of the river (or south? is Shinchon north?) that'll drink early afternoons, so you'll see puke and stuff all over the streets sometimes. It's disturbing.
Sometimes you'll run across people who don't take to kindly to outsiders, even to hak sengs (students) like myself.
Korea is NO place for a vegetarian. My roommate and I went last year and had trouble eating a variety of foods sometimes. But if you eat meat, you're in heaven.
Eat lots of pop-ing-soo, go to Techworld, Itaewon, Apkujung, Shinchon, etc.
Have fun.
