I lived there for a year while in the US Army. I loved it there.

    1. Yongsan Electronics Arcade is a MUST. get every piece of software you ever wanted on 1 DVD etc etc. It's a huge place with every imagineable piece of computer and electronics imagineable.

    2. 'Hooker Hill' (itaewon)... definitely a tourist destination during the day but you'll find some decent knock offs here. At night... this place is party central. Order some 'yakimandu' from the street vendor and people watch as they get drunk out of their mind on Soju.

    3. Soju. I forgot what they called it but basically you pay about 5-6 bucks for a 2 liter bottle cut off at the top filled half with Soju and half with kool aid. Drink one of these and you are DONE. Soju is some good stuff... pretty much odorless and tasteless drunken fun.

    3. Dolsut Bi Bim Bop... order this vegetable / rice / meat and egg dish that comes in a hot stone pot.. sizzling when it arrives.. stir it up and add some red bean paste. i loved this stuff.

    3. namdaemun (spelling) shopping district. outstanding place to soak in some culture.

    4. lotte world. this indoor / outdoor amusement park is actually really cool. from the very wierd candy land ride to the indoor roller coaster.. definitely hit this if you can.

    5. stay off the beaten path and try to learn a couple of korean greetings. the people there are actually very friendly when you make the effort to be a gracious guest.

i really want to take my wife there for a visit. it was one of the best years of my 10 yrs in the army.

... oh.. go up to the DMZ / n. korean border... very sobering.

enjoy yourself and have a safe trip.

PS.. stay away from any protests you may see. the college students there DON'T play.

    k.
