Either of these would work for what you want. Right out of the box they all have a basic template with basic options like search and all of that.
MT doesn't need a Database to run (I think by default it runs in a flat files or something). TXP does need a database to run.
Setting up MT can be a little tricky or at least it was the first time I installed it (but that was awhile ago the install process might be easier now).
TXP is simple to install as long as you know your login info for your databse and all (should be provided by your host)
The difference is MT might be easier to customize than TXP but for a simple blog either would work.
