i disagree. ofcourse it ain't kosher but it depends on the motivation. you can learn a lot from other people's code, like someone said before you need to understand what you use from others in the first place and yes it's an trial and error process of which you learn the most but you don't have to invent the wheel all over again.
do you think all mathematicians will formulate all the base rules over and over again because they have to?
