Look at the beginning section of this video. Anyone have any links to maybe some tutorials that explain how to do some of this? Specifically the camera work, the colored lights the camera is moving to and from, and the particles you see all around.

Video Co-Pilot has a free plugin/preset that allows your camera to fly from comp to comp with simple key frames
So create the comps randomly place them in 3D space with and use the preset to operate the camera
I'll look for that preset and link it here.

^ Thanks. He has so many plugins up there, I might not find the right one.

I'll find for ya

Sure Target 2.0 Preset

- with that preset below you can just keyframe the comps name an the camera will automatically fly to that comp.Ramanisky2
- wasn't sure how experienced Cygnus is in AERamanisky2
- sure, both are valid options. ;)Miguex

something like this
this works great with rotating camera around an object (basically the location of the null object is your camera target.
This technique is also valid on cinema 4d

So Sure Target was the way to go for what Im trying to do. I remember doing a tutorial on it like 4 or 5 years ago and liked it, but never used it for anything and totally forgot about it. And even if I remembered it I probably would have just dismissed it because I didnt think it would be free.
So anyway, that was exactly what I was looking for. Thanks.

I was trying to add some particles to the scene, I dont have particular and cant purchase it, and it looks like when you use AE's built in particle systems, you cant turn them into 3D layers so that you can have them follow your camera.
This is ridiculous. So you can only use them in static scenes, no cameras. Im assuming Particular does work with a camera, but im not spending $400 on 1 plugin. That price is seriously absurd.
- CygnusZero40
Doesnt matter to me how insane is it. NOTHING is $400 insane in AE. Not buying it.
- There are ways around it. You can achieve most looks with no plugins, it just takes a bit of research and more work.Miguex

pretty sure the particle playground that VIdeoCP always uses generates and reacts as 3D when there's a camera in place

If you pre-comp your particle layers you can turn them into 3d layers. you won't have the depth from particular but there are ways around it.
You could stack up a pre-comp of lets say 6 layers separated in Z space kinda like this
every one of those precomps has your particles (it could be the same layer just rotated an flipped to add variation.
Then with a camera layer you can go fly through them.
I used to make "3d" text using this method before I learned Cinema4d and you can get pretty cool results most people would think it's 3d.The trick is never have your layers perpendicular to the camera, so the eye thinks there is depth. Use the auto-orient layer trick from above.
- Yes, but he will need a render beast for this in comb with DOF & Motion Blur.tank02
- I do everything on a laptop, if you are conscious of resources you can do it.Miguex
- someone said: the first 3 starwars movies where achieved with less technological power available in todays phone. you dont NEED the latest anything. :)Miguex
- particles can be drawn on illustrator and just be still for example. I don't know exactly what he wants to do though...Miguex
- Yeah, i also do also my work on my laptop; but when you are not used to AE and working with ram previews and a system it can become a workflow hell :)tank02
- sure, can be a bit slower but you adjust and make it work. I feel most time people worry too much about having the latest gear and there is no need for it.Miguex
- it's like the guy buying the latest dslr camera and they you see him shooting on auto mode, doesn't even know how to use it but loves to brag about price tagMiguex

CygnusZero4
do you have an example of what you are trying to achieve so we can see?
- its in the beginning portion of the clip he linked http://www.youtube.c…Ramanisky2
- I see, I think that can be achieved with no particle engineMiguex
- just it comes with AE .. a free pluginRamanisky2
- *just saying Particle Playground comes with AERamanisky2
- Miguex0
also, what about this?
$40 bucks, throw it on top, maybe do some editing to match your edit. cheaper than particular.
- Spent $40 for one little effect I may never use again?CygnusZero4
- You don't have to, on my messages above you have solutions without spending any money at all, choice is your man. :)Miguex
- We are just giving you options, you pick how you want to go about itMiguex

This is also particualer btw.
