Accelerated Mobile Pages
https://www.ampproject.orgIn theory: good idea.

How does this work with responsive?
- utopian-1
http://https//www.ampproject.org…
Safari Can’t Find the Server- www.ampproject.orgutopian
- QBN doesn't handle https post well :(uan
- it doesn't handle https// requests very well, sure. It handles https:// just like everything else though.detritus
- I think it strips off the colon from the link in the a href. it shows https:// but links to https// and that confuses the browsers.uan
- actually that's wrong, it links to http://https:// and the browser strips off the colon because it's an invalid character in urls.uan

Great concept and looks cool...but like '2002' stated, does this work responsive? I could not find anything on their FAQ page.
- uan0
what do you mean with 'does it work responsive'?
it's a different file you send to the devices. AMP is a subset of HTML.AMP docs look like this (with chevrons)
!doctype html
html AMP
headthey took everything away from html, js, css that makes pages fat and slow. it's a great idea and concept.

I think, I know what you mean now with responsive.
looking at the guardian example code css,
@media (max-width: 550px) is supported.

Having read recently that some newspaper websites weigh over 15Mb (!!!), I hope I can have a desktop reader that does this, and cut out all the crap...
- why? who cares.fadein11
- Quite an ignorant comment! All the people on metred connections, mobile, or people who give a shit about efficiency? You might not, but a lot of people do.detritus
- Ah sorry - you mentioned a desktop reader - I've never had metred broadband at home/office... must be an American thing. So not ignorant thanks.fadein11
- "Admits ignorance, claims not ignorant"
An interesting perspective!detritus - WTF is metred broadband? Are you talking about mobile?? If so your desktop reader comment is irrelevant to your point.fadein11
- Metred broadband is what a lot of people who don't have full-pipe broadband have.
ie. fuckloads of old folk who read newspapers. You know, 'real people'?detritus - wow - doesn't exist over here anymore...fadein11
- Oh? Even Sky and BT run metred services in cities. God only knows what people outwith decent broadband have to put up with, but I guess 'fuck them'?detritus
- You seem to be missing the point here, but fundamentally, I'd quite like to browse content without massive excesses of bloat. I know I'm not the only one.detritus
- You're not the only one! #istandwithdetritusnb

Looks like an emulation of "Reader" mode for Safari.

Well, for shits and giggles, I've just re-engineered my personal site to be AMP overnight.
I previously scored 100/100 for mobile speed, mobile UX and desktop according to PageSpeed Insights (lol). This was predominantly because I didn't use any JS (just hidden radio buttons with labels and pseudo-selectors like :checked) and so on. I also minify everything as much as possible and serve everything up with nginx.
Now I score 99/100 for mobile speed as this JavaScript file could have been minified by a further 2%.
:rage:

but seriously, it is a good idea for massive bloated websites like the guardian and other online publications.
- fadein110
Great for high traffic news sites, pretty much irrelevant to general site.

- I dunno, is it not a shortcut to a 'proper' mobile site for even single pagers? I'm going to have a tinker with it on my own site this weekend.detritus
- Never had the need for a shortcut to mobile - I just build lean responsive sites. But each to their own. Never really had a problem with load times of pages onfadein11
- standard web builds.fadein11
- yeah, me too - but i really like the idea of a complete redux version. Minds me of RSS .. or even the old WAP days (remember them?)detritus

The Guardian is the less bloated mobile site according to this test from 1 week ago by the New York Times
